The Relationship Between Mastery of Nahwu and the Quality of Qur’an Memorization of 8th and 9th Grade Students at Darul Khair Islamic Boarding School, Sungai Pakning

This study aims to determine the relationship between grammar mastery (nahwu) and the quality of Qur’an memorization among eighth- and ninth-grade students at Ma'had Darul Khair Sungai Pakingning. The background of this research is based on observations indicating that some students who master nahwu show significant improvement in their memorization quality, while others show no noticeable change.
This research employs a quantitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of a Likert-scale questionnaire for the grammar-mastery variable and oral memorization tests for Qur’an memorization quality. The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability using IBM SPSS Statistics 25.
The validity test showed that 25 out of 30 questionnaire items were considered valid, and the reliability test resulted in a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.909, indicating high reliability. The normality test using Shapiro-Wilk showed that the data were not normally distributed; therefore, the correlation analysis was conducted using the Spearman test.
The analysis results revealed a very strong and positive relationship between grammar mastery and the quality of Qur’an memorization, with a correlation coefficient of 0.854 and a significance level of 0.000 (P < 0.01). Thus, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected, indicating a significant relationship between grammar mastery and students’ Qur’an memorization quality.
It is expected that this study will serve as a reference for Islamic educational institutions to more effectively integrate the teaching of nahwu into memorization programs in order to improve students’ Qur’an memorization quality.
