Post-Publication Discussion

Post-Publication Discussion

KAISA: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran holds the view that scholarly discussion continues after an article is published. The journal welcomes comments, critiques, and responses to published articles, as open academic debate contributes to the advancement of educational scholarship and helps preserve the accuracy of the scholarly record. This policy explains how readers may participate in such discussions and how the journal handles them.

1. Purpose

Post-publication discussion gives readers the opportunity to:

  • Submit substantive comments, critiques, or alternative perspectives on published articles.
  • Point out errors in data, citations, source material, or reasoning.
  • Provide new information — such as subsequent educational policy developments, curriculum changes, or new empirical findings that emerge after the article was published — that is relevant to the article.
  • Raise concerns regarding research integrity.

2. Discussion Channels

Readers may participate in post-publication discussion through the following channels:

  • Letter to the Editor. A brief written response to a published article, sent by email to kaisa.stainbengkalis@gmail.com with the subject line “Post-Publication Discussion: [Article Title]”.
  • Response Article. A longer critical response that develops a full scholarly argument. Such articles may be submitted as new manuscripts through the journal's online submission system and will undergo the same peer-review process as other manuscripts. Please refer to the Manuscript Types section.
  • External Platforms. Readers may also discuss articles through external platforms such as PubPeer or academic social networks. The journal monitors significant issues raised through such platforms and may follow up in accordance with this policy.

3. Requirements for Letters to the Editor

Letters to the editor must meet the following requirements:

  • Refer to a specific article published in KAISA: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran, including the title and DOI of the article.
  • Be submitted within 12 months of the article's publication, except where the letter raises a serious concern regarding research integrity.
  • Not exceed 1,500 words, including references.
  • Be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Focus on substantive scholarly issues and be supported by argumentation and references.
  • Use polite and professional language, with no personal attacks on any party.
  • Include the full name of the letter's author, affiliation, email address, and any conflicts of interest (see the Conflict of Interest policy).

4. Handling Procedure

  1. Editorial Assessment. The Editor-in-Chief reviews the letter to determine whether it is relevant, substantive, and meets the requirements above. Letters that do not meet the requirements will be declined and the author of the letter will be notified.
  2. Author's Right of Reply. If the letter is accepted for consideration, the author of the original article will receive a copy of the letter and will be given an opportunity to respond within 30 days.
  3. Decision. The editor decides whether the letter will be published, together with the author's reply when available. The letter and reply may be edited for length and clarity, with the consent of their authors.
  4. Publication. Published letters and replies will be linked to the original article so that readers can follow the full discussion.

5. Follow-up Actions

Depending on the content of the discussion, the editor may take one of the following actions:

  • No Further Action, where the discussion concerns a scholarly difference of opinion. Differences of interpretation are a normal part of the advancement of educational scholarship and do not constitute grounds for a correction.
  • Publication of the Letter and the Author's Reply, where the discussion adds value to the scholarly debate.
  • Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum), where the discussion reveals an unintended error that does not affect the article's principal conclusions.
  • Expression of Concern or Retraction, where the discussion reveals a serious error that undermines the validity of the article's findings.
  • Investigation of Misconduct, where the discussion raises concerns regarding fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other forms of misconduct. Such matters are handled in accordance with the journal's policy on Allegations of Research Misconduct.

6. Principles

The journal handles every post-publication discussion fairly, transparently, and in a timely manner. Both authors and those submitting comments are treated with respect. The journal does not tolerate abusive or defamatory language from any party. All decisions follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
