Traditions function as a medium for transmitting cultural values and identity across generations. Among Malay and wider Nusantara communities, the tradition of infant hair-cutting often performed in conjunction with aqiqah, birth rituals, or social ceremonies has been preserved and continues to embody spiritual, ethical, and social dimensions. This study aims to examine the implementation of the hair-cutting tradition within Malay society and to analyze the Islamic educational values embedded in the ritual, including faith (aqidah), worship (ibadah), morality (akhlaq), and health and cleanliness. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by analyzing books, academic journals, proceedings, and relevant scholarly works from the last five years. The findings indicate that the hair-cutting tradition functions not merely as a cultural heritage but also as an effective medium of non-formal Islamic education. Through ritual stages such as prayer recitation, naming, aqiqah, and community participation, Islamic values are internalized naturally within family and social environments. Furthermore, the study highlights the potential for reconciling local customs with Islamic teachings, enabling the tradition to be preserved without contradicting Islamic law. Therefore, the hair-cutting tradition holds strong relevance as a contextual and sustainable model of Islamic education based on local culture.
